Robert T. Alder died on Monday, Oct. 17, 2011 at the Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena. He was born on April 5, 1921 in Beloit, WI to Robert and Erma (Schmidt) Alder. He graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1939 and attended UW-Madison before joining the Air Force, serving from 1942 to 1953, where he attained the rank of Major. He served in the Pacific theatre in World War II and served in Korea as well. He flew P41's, P47's and F86's in combat. He received many medals and was highly decorated for his service. He married the former Elizabeth Duckwitz in 1947 and she preceded him in death in 2006. He owned and operated Alder's Inc., a Dean Foods distribution company, until his retirement.
Survivors include his children; Robert Charles of Leawood, KS, James B. (Dawn) of Waunakee, Andrea Alder (Charles Kreul) of Poynette, Sue Riesberg of Lodi and Michael Alder of Madison; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother Ivan (Alice); and sister-in-law Mary Gene Alder. He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth; a son Steven; and a brother George.
A memorial service will be held on Sat. Oct. 22, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home in Waunakee. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sat from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services. A gathering will follow at Rex's Innkeeper in Waunakee.
Inurnment will follow at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
