Madison - Robert W. Bohen, age 88, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2011 after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer at UW Hospital. His loving family was by his side during his final decline. Robert was born in Mauston, WI., January 27, 1923 to James and Laura (Fessey) Bohen. He married Elizabeth Young on October 28, 1958. Robert served in the U.S. Navy Medical Corp from 1943-1945. Following that duty he attended the University of California and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in social work. From 1955-1958 he was a social worker for Dane County in Madison. From 1958 to 1961 he was a probation officer for Henrico County in Richmond, VA. In 1961 he returned to Madison to serve as a supervisor in the city of Madison Department of Social Services. He retired in 1985.
He is survived by his step-son Robert (Jean) Barganz; two grandchildren, Marcella (Tamas) Barganz and Sybil (Robert) Holmes and four great grandchildren; also a sister, Mary Hatleberg; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Bohen.
His wry wit and humor, fabulous cooking and generosity will be sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Margaret; two brothers, Raymond and Harold, and by his loving wife Betty with whom he sought to be reunited.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 405 S. Owen Dr., Madison, on Friday, October 28, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. with Msgr. Kenneth J. Fiedler presiding. A visitation will be held at church on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until time of the mass. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service at church.
