Robert Halverson

Stoughton- Bob "Beaner" Halverson, age 92, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born in the Township of Dunn on May 27, 1922, the son of LeRoy and Lucretia (Atkinson) Halverson. Bob graduated from Stoughton High School. Soon after, he enlisted in the Army, Co. I, 128th Infantry, 32nd Division, serving in the Pacific Theatre from 1940 until 1943. On November 5, 1944, Bob married Elaine "Dixie" Meiller. He worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs for 43 years. After retiring, he and Dixie enjoyed travelling the back roads from Florida to Alaska. Bob was a member of the United Methodist Church. He volunteered at the Stoughton Hospital for many years and was a longtime friend of the Stoughton Senior Center, which he considered his second home. After Dixie's death, Bob spent winters on Sanibel Island, and like always made many friends. He is survived by his son, Jack of Stoughton; son, Jay (Karen) of Sanibel, FL; daughter-in-law, Nancy of Ashland, OR; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, William "Bud" of Stoughton; four nieces; and one nephew. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dixie; son, Jeff; grandson, Jeff Jr.; and sister, Lois. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 22, 2014 at Stoughton United Methodist Church, 525 Lincoln Avenue, with Rev. Dawn Jeffers Ramstad officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon immediately following the services in the church fellowship hall. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services Monday at church. Memorials may be made to the Stoughton Senior Center.
