Robert E. ""Buck"" Kalhagen

McFarland- Robert E. Kalhagen, age 76, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital due to complications of surgery.  He was born in Madison on January 24, 1932 the son of Alfred and Thelma (Hanson) Kalhagen.  On November 22, 1950 he married Marilyn Martin.  Bob worked for Badger Petroleum Company, Bierleys Soda Company and Ohio Medical.  He then worked at the Dept. of Natural Resources where he retired after 32 years of service.  Bob played and managed the McFarland Home Talent Team from 1947-1951.  He formed and managed the McFarland Archery Club.  Bob was also a member of Hope Rod and Gun Club.  In 1951 he became a member of the McFarland Volunteer Fire Department.  Bob was a life-long avid hunter and fisherman.  After retiring from the DNR, Bob was a dedicated crossing guard for the McFarland School System for 8 years.  He also loved to decorate for all the holidays especially Christmas.  Bob was well-known for playing Santa for almost 10 years, handing out candy and stuffed toys to thousands of children.  His many flower gardens were enjoyed by all who passed by.  Bob was a long time member of McFarland Lutheran Church and member of First Lutheran Church of Stoughton.  He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marilyn; his children, Darlene (Steve) Cooley of Madison, Robert (Betty) Kalhagen of McFarland, and Kevin (Trish) Kalhagen of Edgerton; grandchildren, Becky Dorn, Russ (Kristen) Cooley, Mindy (Joe) Wentworth, Molly Kalhagen, Jeff Kalhagen, Chad (Rica) Kalhagen and Thomas Kalhagen; great grandchildren, Brandon and Rachel Dorn and Jaxon Wentworth.  Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Joan Bryant.  Memorial services will be held at 12:30 PM on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in McFarland, with Rev. Richard Halom officiating.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Thursday.  Friends and family are invited to a luncheon immediately following the services at McFarland Lutheran Church.  The family would like to thank the staff of Stoughton Hospital ER and ICU and the staff of St. Mary's Hospital NSICU.
