MADISON - Robert D. Longstreth died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, several weeks short of his 82d birthday.
Bob was born in Dayton, Ohio and grew up in nearby Collinsville. After graduating from the University of Miami in Oxford, Ohio, he moved to Phoenix, where he met and married Marion Petrovich. In 1959 he received his Masters in Social Work from the University of Chicago, and the following year he became the Associate Executive Secretary for the Community Welfare Council in Madison. From 1969 until his retirement in 2000, he was a social worker for the Veterans Administration. Only last year Bob, a seasoned traveler, along with Marion and their daughter Margaret enjoyed a trip along the coasts of Chile and Argentina.
Bob was a member of the vestries of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and Grace Episcopal Church and also served on the Commission on Ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee. After his retirement , he was a volunteer docent at the State Historical Society and enjoyed taking classes at the University of Wisconsin. His interest in the history of University Heights led him to become one of the founding members of the Neighborhood Association there. He was also an avid antiquer.
Bob is survived by Marion, his wife of nearly 57 years, his children Bob of San Diego, John of Bethesda, Maryland, and Margaret of Oakland, and his grandchildren Daniel, Sarah, Molly, Adeline and Braden.
