Robert "Bob" Niesen

Robert “Bob” Niesen, age 88, passed away on September 6. Bob was born on November 7, 1935 to Michael and Amanda (Meyer) Niesen in Superior, WI. He graduated from Marshall High School then served in the US Army. Bob married the love of his life, Catherine “Cathy” (Ripp), on June 18, 1959 at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Ashton. They made a life together in Waunakee, where he was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish, serving the community with the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed leading the rosary and ministering the eucharist at The Manor. He had a great passion for playing card games and spent many hours with friends and family laughing and creating memories with those he loved. It is rare to leave a family gathering without a declared winner of a game. His great love for his family, particularly his wife of 65 years, was his greatest accomplishment. The quiet ways he guided and helped anyone he could were an inspiration to us all. May we continue to love and serve others as wholeheartedly as he demonstrated. Our family on earth is forever changed. May we find peace and comfort in knowing you are with our Lord Jesus and will be waiting for each of us when we are called home to join you.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Cathy, of Waunakee; six children: Brian (Christi), Karen (Patrick) Berliot, Lois (Edward) Lawson, Sharon (Scott Conklin) Rindy, Joseph (Cindy), Cynthia (Patraic) Maloney; Nineteen grandchildren; Eleven great-grandchildren; his sister, Phyllis Weier; his in-laws: Jerry Treinen; Jim (Joanne) Ripp; Harold Schlimgen; Vera Statz; Mary (Ken) Breunig; Dave (Eunie) Ripp and many nieces and nephews. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Amanda Niesen; infant daughter, Lori Ann; in-laws, Albert and Mathilda Ripp; Betty Treinen, Agnes Schlimgen, Laura Mae Ripp, and Marv Statz.

Funeral service will be held on Friday Sept.13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St John’s Catholic Church 209 South St Waunakee. Friends may call on Thursday Sept. 12, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home 5785 Hwy Q Waunakee. Friends may also call at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
