Robert Nyborg

August 25, 1927 — May 4, 2018

Robert Wilson Nyborg age 90, passed away peacefully at Agrace Hospice Center in Madison on Friday May 4, 2018. He was the son of Josephine and George Nyborg. Robert was born in Token Creek Wisconsin in a home that still stands there.

The family relocated to Madison where he graduated early from East High School in February 1946 so he could enter the armed forces. Robert served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served in the Air Inspector's section of the 7th Airways and Air Communications Service at Tokyo. When he returned to civilian life, he worked in the offices of the Milwaukee Road Railroad. He then got a job with the Post Office as a mail carrier on the University of Wisconsin Madison campus route of the Special Delivery unit. He experienced delivering many unusual packages like live animals to the science research departments. In 1987 Robert was given a plaque and recognition for driving over one million miles on the job without an accident or incident. They estimated that he drove the equivalent of four trips to the moon. Robert retired from the Post Office in 1990. Robert enjoyed maintaining things around the home. He even enjoyed yard work. He cut down a couple trees and removed the roots himself--in an August heat wave. He read extensively including the newspaper front to back every day. He also enjoyed novels and constantly read for pleasure and to learn something. His biggest reading interest concerned WWII. He was a bit of a history buff about that era. He also enjoyed PBS Television because he had a curious mind. He kept a journal of his activities for years. Robert engaged in woodworking and made projects until failing eyesight caused him to give it up. Robert also enjoyed the couple's dogs, Max, Gina, Hachiko, and Bella. These beloved pets all received long walks and lots of love. Robert married Lillian Goggin on February 9, 1963. Lillian had been widowed and had five young children. Together, they made their home on Madison's east side. Robert lost Lillian his wife of 55 years, on April 19, 2018 just 15 days prior to his own passing.

He is survived by his daughter Patricia (David), sons Thomas (Mary Ann), Robert (Mary), Donald (Mary) and son Timothy. Robert has six grandchildren, Jonathan (Xochitl), Kjerstin (Michael), Vanessa, Katie, Christopher and Steven. He has four wonderful great grandchildren, CJ, Jack, Madisyn and Daisy. He is survived by his nephew Richard Nyborg (Linda) of Eau Claire. Lillian's niece Leani has been a real help to Robert and Lillian, there to help in any capacity. The Nyborgs are survived by some people who though not family, are like family. Notably, former neighbors Lynn, George and Debra. Real Estate agent Frank came to sell their home in 2004 and stayed to become their friend. Other friends include Jerran H. of Poynette from Robert's Post Office days, Carolyn, Shirley, and "adopted sons" Dexter, Arnold and Oscar. The family is grateful to Agrace Hospice Care for the care and comfort they provided Robert during his last few days. In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to Agrace Hospice of Madison.
