MADISON- Robert "Bob" William Owen, age 70, of Madison, WI passed away on February 10, 2016 at his home. He was born on December 25, 1945 in La Crosse, WI to parents Keith and Hilda (Schroeder) Owen. He married Susan Levendoski on September 20, 1975. They had three sons - Ryan, Steven and Ross. A proud 26-year veteran of the United States Navy and Navy Reserves, Robert Owen honorably served our country while traveling the world and expanding his horizons.
Bob graduated from Houston High School in Minnesota. He received his Associate's degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Western Wisconsin Technical Institute. Bob later moved to Madison and went back to school in order to pursue a career that he was passionate about. He received his Associate's degree in computer processing in 1976.
Bob worked at the State of Wisconsin Employee Trust Fund as a computer programmer for 26 years until his retirement in 2002. Once retired, he worked at the Veterans Affairs Hospital and volunteered his time at the Ronald McDonald House.
Bob was a kind man with a huge heart. If he felt he could do something for anyone, he would. He loved to spend time with his three sons. Some of their favorite activities were boating, camping, bowling, and attending basketball and football games. They travelled to a new college football stadium annually to experience a new game day environment and cheer the Wisconsin Badgers on to victory.
Robert Owen is survived by his former spouse Susan Owen, children Ryan Owen, Steven Owen and his wife Sarah Hogan and Ross Owen, his sisters Janice Meinders and Carol Loverink. Robert Owen was preceded in death by his brother Gordon Owen, his sister Elizabeth Owen, and parents Keith and Hilda Owen.
A memorial service will be held at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison on Friday, February 19, 2016 at 6pm, officiated by Pastor Sheryl Erickson from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Military honors will be performed following the service. A visitation will be held from 4pm until the time of service.
