Stoughton- Robert J. Schoonover, age 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. He was born on March 1, 1925 in Janesville, a son of Les and Gertrude (Thom) Schoonover. Bob was educated in the Janesville schools graduating from high school in 1942. He was married in Janesville to Teresa ""Tess"" Frank on June 5, 1948. For several years Bob was employed in the hardware business in Wisconsin Rapids and Appleton. He and his wife Tess moved to Stoughton in 1967 where they owned and operated the Plaza Paint and Hardware business until their retirement in 1988. Following his career there Bob was employed at Evergreen State Bank as a bank courier. Schoonie, as he was affectionately known, was an avid Badger football fan and longtime season ticket holder. Bob was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church and the Stoughton Lions club. He was a former member of the Stoughton Country Club and Stoughton Chamber of Commerce. Bob's wife preceded him in death on October 3, 1998. Bob is survived by a sister-in-law, Pauline Frank of Janesville; special cousin, Nancy Burrington of Janesville; eight nieces and nephews; and many long time friends including Lloyd (Pat) Hensel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 27, 2009 at First Lutheran Church, 310 E. Washington Street, with Rev. Richard Halom officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery in Janesville. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the church. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon at the church immediately following the services.Â
