Robert MacLaine Seaton, of Janesville, WI died on October 27, 2020 at the age of 66. Bob was born on December 22, 1953 in Torrington, Wyoming to Suzanne Vickery and Yandell Sterling Seaton. Bob graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha with a BS degree in Accounting and married his college sweetheart. After graduating, he spent five years helping a family friend open three restaurants in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. Bob changed careers in 1983 to insurance/investments and became a Certified Financial Planner in 1989. He was a Charter Financial Consultant and Registered Investment Advisor with FSC Securities Corporation, Atlanta, Georgia. He served as Chairman of the Agent’s Advisory Council for Central Life Assurance Company of Iowa.
Bob worked with his wife, Janet, advising and guiding clients toward their financial goals. Bob’s wit and wisdom as well as passion for his work was infectious. His client’s best interest was his top priority and he sought to make a positive difference in their lives. He was focused on educating his client’s as well as young students on the basics of how money works. He stressed the fundamentals of compound interest and saving for the future. He was a frequent speaker at Marshall Middle School in their Careers Class and received many cards of thanks from students.
Bob felt strongly in giving back to the Janesville community. He was recognized for his Outstanding Club Leadership as President of the Kiwanis Club, honored as a Kiwanis Fellow, he pioneered Crime Stoppers in Janesville and served as Chairman of Crimeline. He was Ambassador Supreme for the Janesville Area Chamber of Commerce and served on the American Cancer Society Board in Janesville.
Bob was a very involved father. He served as an Assistant Scout Leader while his two boys were in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He enjoyed participating in scouting activities, especially coaching Cub Scout softball and never missed a camping trip. Bob spent several years as a Merit Badge Counselor and was pleased both Jon and Jeff achieved Eagle Scout. The boys spent countless hours with their father on designing and constructing an information kiosk. The “Seaton – BSA Troop 402 Bike Trail Info Center” is located on the Ice Age Trail by Kennedy School. They also worked with the City of Janesville on improving playground safety and beautification at Ruger Park including restoring the original carousel.
Bob was originally diagnosed with cancer at age ten and demonstrated how to live every day to its fullest. He will be missed by his wife, Janet, sons Jonathon Seaton and Jeffrey Seaton. He is also survived by his sister Sarah Seaton Hanifen; brother-in-law Edward Wetherbee; step-brothers Roger Bewig and Clifford Bewig, III; mother-in-law Betty Wetherbee. He was predeceased by his mother Suzanne Vickery Bewig, father Sterling Seaton, step-father Clifford Bewig, Jr., and father-in-law Robert Wetherbee.
At Bob’s request, no services will be held locally. There will be a graveside service at Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska during the Spring/Summer 2021.
