Stoughton - Robert Brooks Simmonds, age 74, passed away on February 15, 2017, at Agrace in Fitchburg, WI after a long battle with Lupus and all its complications. He was born to Forrest A. Simmonds and Lela M. Brooks in Madison, WI on July 30, 1942.
He married Judy Anne Tower on June 4,1967 in Milwaukee, WI, missing their 50th anniversary by four months. They have two children, Amy Brashi, and Melissa Chicker (Matt). Four grandchildren, Caitlin Simmonds-Chicker, Callie Van Lare (Jake), Zachary Brashi and Lela Brashi. And his "little buddy" great grandson, Sawyer Robert. He is also survived by his special cousin, Richard Brooks and his wife Elaine "Sam" Brooks, along with many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, his brother, James A. Simmonds, and sister, Mary Lou Wegner, in-laws, Robert J. and Mildred A. Tower, and brother-in-laws, Robert R. Tower and Robert Wegner, and sister-in-law, Mary Simmonds.
Bob worked for Xerox and the State of Wisconsin before retiring from Trachte in 2004 due to ill health. He and Judy traveled before he became ill, including 3 trips to Hawaii. His other love was Corvettes and convertibles. At the time Judy and Bob met he had a 57 Corvette. They traveled to Canada and New York in their 2000 Corvette to attend the reunion of the USS Little Rock in Buffalo, the ship he served on in 1965-66. He was very proud of serving in the US Navy.
He was very close to his daughters, and proud of all their accomplishments. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed living close and spending time with them. He had almost a year to enjoy his great grandchild, Sawyer, who gave him great joy this past year. His dogs, Clancey, Sparky, and Sophie were his constant companions.
Celebration of Life will be held at 12 noon on Saturday February 25, 2017 at Cress Funeral Home, 206 W. Prospect St., Stoughton. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday. Family and friends are invited to meal following the service at the Stoughton American Legion Post 59.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Veterans Memorial in Stoughton.
