Robert W. Simmons Jr.

Madison - Robert W. (Bob) Simmons, Jr. passed away suddenly on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at the age of 76. He is survived by his mother Nell Chapman Simmons (100 years old), brother Frank Simmons (Jean), daughter Melanie Simmons, son Malcolm Simmons (Cynthia), son Duncan Simmons (Bonnie), daughter Victoria Simmons Rezko (Burt), eight grandchildren: Roberto, Heather, Brett, Spencer, Patrick, Rachel, Benjamin, and Sarah; four nephews, their wives and eight grand nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father R. Wilbur Simmons and his wife Luana Macpherson Simmons. He was a member of the faculty of the University of Wisconsin from 1962-1970 in the Linguistics Department teaching Slavic languages and literature. He was very active in Madison youth sports over many years, supporting youth hockey and refereeing soccer games at all age levels. Until his death, he operated 1040 Tax Service providing many clients with needed tax and financial services regardless of their means. Until the end, he still typed returns on a typewriter. He acted as caretaker, financial and otherwise, to several clients who found themselves in need at the end of their lives and beyond. Over his life, he had adopted many people into his family, and continued to keep in touch with his large circle of family and friends by sharing clippings and articles about the many varied issues important to him. He donated to many charities. Among his favorites were charities related to Native Americans and American Veterans. Memorial services will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road,   Madison on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Eldonna Hazen officiating.   A visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.   In lieu of flowers, Bob would like best to be remembered with a charitable contribution in his name to Pilgrim Place, 660 Avery Road, Claremont, California 91711, www.pilgrimplace.org, or to any organization of your choice.
