Robert Storck

MADISON--Robert K. "Bob" Storck passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, February 7, 2014. Bob fought a courageous, dignified battle with brain cancer, never once complaining, and always determined to wake up every day to do his best. He went out on his own terms, in a way so very typical of Bob, with ZZ Top playing in the background.
Bob was born on March 30, 1951, in Madison, to Orville and Christine (Kravik) Storck. He was raised on the east side of Madison near Lake Monona. He spent many hours water skiing on the lake with family and friends.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Colleen (Endres Hellenbrand) Storck, whom he married on July 28, 2007, his children Jimmy and Katie Storck and their mother Mary Kate Elbow, stepchildren Jeremy (Stephanie) Hellenbrand (children Alexis and Cameron) and Brandon Hellenbrand (fianc�e Sarah Burdick). He is also survived by siblings Connie (Ron) Inda, Jeanne (Mike) Kimble, Dianne (Rich) Arneson, and Richard Storck. Other survivors include his parents-in-law Harry and Marlene Endres, and siblings-in-law Darrell (Diane) Endres, Sheri (Chris) Allen, Julie (Jim) Wipperfurth, and Brad (Lynn) Endres, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The most important thing in his life was his family, especially his children. He was so proud of them and loved to attend all of their events, from soccer games to dance recitals. He enjoyed golf, biking, hiking, and traveling with Colleen. They enjoyed many great trips together--in particular to national parks. He loved to read and had a particular interest in Civil War and WWII history. He was an avid Badger and Packer fan, and always looked forward to watching the Masters Golf tournament with his brother Rich.
Bob was passionate about sports and was a very gifted, competitive athlete. He excelled at football and basketball at Madison East High School. He attended UW Madison and played football for the Wisconsin Badgers from 1969 to 1972. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams, but due to injury chose not to play.
His most recent sports passion was rowing. In his usual style, he gave it his all and was determined to be the best rower he could be. He spent many enjoyable hours rowing with the Mendota Rowing Club.
Bob spent the majority of his career working in the field of Information Technology, with the last 25+ years at TDS Telecom in Madison, where he made many friends over the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Orville and Christine Storck and stepfather Bob Snyder.
Thank you to the doctors and nurses at the UW Carbone Cancer Center and the staff at Agrace HospiceCare. Special thanks to Dr. Ian Robins for his compassionate care. The family would also like to acknowledge all of Bob's great friends who spent so much time with him during his illness.
A Celebration of Bob's life will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2165 Linden Avenue, Madison, with Reverend Pat Siegler officiating. Family will greet friends after 2 p.m. until the time of service. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Agrace HospiceCare or the UW Carbone Cancer Center.
