Robert "Bob" Simon

January 8, 1938 — April 7, 2023

Sun Prairie

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Simon, our loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a friend to all whose lives he touched. Bob left us on Friday, April 7, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital after fighting a 16-year battle with various cancers. He had the support of many very fine doctors over the years. He was always grateful for the care he received from Dr. Tyler Zenner and Dr. Ryan Porter.

Bob was the son of Walter and Louise Simon. He was born in Madison on January 8, 1938. He had a sister, Mary (Bob) Bernards.  He graduated from Madison East High School in 1956. Bob then attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Later, he met Suzanne, his devoted wife of 54 years. Bob and Sue started their family together a year later when they had their first of three children. Bob was a proud owner of a gift shop for several years before working as a clothing sales representative until he retired at the age of 75.

Bob was the beloved father to Dawn (Matt) Craven of Lake Elsinore, CA, Tammy Williams of Lake Elsinore, CA, Peter (Jenny) Simon of Sun Prairie, WI, Jon (Andrea) Simon of Janesville, WI, and Lisbeth (John) Heilmann of Fox Point, WI. He was a doting grandfather to Cody (Krystal) Craven, Jenna (Mike) Kelleher, Adam (Kate) Williams, Caity (Randy) Lopez, Carter, Grace, Payton, and Addison Simon; and Claire and Anna Heilmann. He was a proud great-grandfather to Hannah and Athaya Craven, Charlotte Kelleher, Sadie and Zoey Lopez, and Avery Williams. Bob also leaves behind his brother-in law-Dennis (Bonnie) Traugott and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary (Bob) Bernards, and son-in-law Phil Williams.

He lived a full life with a positive attitude and was known to bring a smile and share jokes wherever he was. Bob was a member of the Army National Guard, volunteered at a local food pantry, coached various youth athletic teams, and was very active with the Sound of Sun Prairie Band Boosters where he served as President. He loved the outdoors and was on the lake fishing early every morning during trips up north each summer and was on the ice fishing on the coldest days of winter. He was always on a quest for that trophy musky. He enjoyed playing racquetball and later pickleball at the Prairie Athletic Club. He played until the age of 83 years. Bob cheered on his children and grandchildren as they grew and were involved in many activities. He was such a proud and supportive father and grandfather. Even when he was in his last days, he’d smile and get a little twinkle in his eye when hearing stories of his children and grandchildren. He loved his family dearly. Bob’s work required a lot of travel but when he was home, he enjoyed spending time in his flower garden. His flower of choice was the rose. He had many rose bushes which Sue particularly loved because she was supplied with many beautiful bouquets throughout the summers.
