Robert "Rob" Nebel

Robert “Rob” Nebel, age 62 of Deerfield, WI passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.  Rob was born in Sheboygan, WI February 1, 1961, to the late Robert and Lois (Treadwell) Nebel.  Rob graduated from Sheboygan South High School in 1979.  While in high school, Rob excelled in football, basketball, and track and field. He continued his education at UW-Sheboygan where he participated in soccer and tennis.  Rob transferred to UW-Milwaukee where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architectural Studies.  On July 18, 1992, Rob was united in marriage to Sherry Suess at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot, WI.  Rob and Sherry shared 32 years together.  Rob was employed as Assistant Director of Public Works for Dane County until his retirement in 2018.  He was a key figure in many major construction projects including the Dane County Courthouse.   Rob cherished his family and their time spent together.  Camping and especially boating in Wisconsin lakes and rivers were their favorites.  He was extremely proud of his two sons, Eric and Andrew.  Rob coached the boys’  soccer, cheered them on at athletic events, enjoyed musical performances, and celebrated many academic achievements.  Sharing their accomplishments with friends and family was his pride and joy.  Rob will be fondly remembered for his good-natured teasing, ability to make others laugh, and prowess in the game of sheepshead. He will be dearly missed by family and many friends.

Rob is survived by his wife Sherry of Deerfield and his two sons, Eric Nebel (Watertown, WI) and Andrew Nebel (Fremont, CA). He is also survived by his siblings Mark Nebel of Sun City West, AZ, Tom (Mary) Nebel of Sheboygan Falls, Nancy (Robert) Bouche of Sheboygan Falls, Mary (Robert) Sass of Sheboygan, mother-in-law Dorothy Suess of Mishicot,   brother-in-law Lee (Audrey) Suess of Manitowoc, and sister-in-law Kathy Theiss (Jim Bruseth) of Francis Creek.  In addition, many beloved nieces and nephews: Adam (RaeAnn) Nebel, Sarah (Josh) Pederson, Matthew Nebel, Mark Nebel, Peter Nebel, John Nebel, Elizabeth (Jeremy) Wimmler, Ben Bouche, Robert (Tessa) Sass, Samantha (Ben) Satter, Lucas Sass, Amanda (Jamie) Lambert, Dan Theiss, David (Jaclyn) Theiss, and Jonathan (Cassie) Suess. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Lois Nebel, and father-in-law Edward Suess.

A private family service will be conducted per Rob’s request.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in his name.

Rob’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and other staff of St. Mary’s Hospital, Madison for their care and concern.
