Roger Raymond Haerterich, age 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 9, 2017 after a 10 year battle with ALS, his loving wife by his bedside. He was born in the Town of Oakland, WI on October 19, 1937, son of Ernst and Esther (Renz) Haerterich. He was united in marriage to Darlene Lee in Marshall on January 23, 1960. Together they raised 4 children.
Roger was raised on the family farm in Lake Mills prior to settling in Sun Prairie in 1960. He worked excavating his entire life and co-founded Terra Engineering retiring in 1997. He was a proud 50-year member of Operating Engineers Local # 139. After retirement he enjoyed the outdoors, spending time gardening, bird watching and the companionship of his grand-dog Bucky. He also fulfilled a dream by being able to bicycle from Washington D.C. back to Wisconsin. His true love was spending time with his grandchildren and watching them in all their activities.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Darlene; children Phil (Tammi), Holly (Troy) Wolter, Heidi Haerterich and Lori Powers; his grandchildren Chad (Morgen), Amanda (Trevor), Dana, David (Emily), Kyle, Nick(Michaela), Sarah, Kristi, Austin, Caitlin and Allison; His great-grandchildren Jack and Reed and two great-granddaughters arriving soon; his siblings, Evelyn, June, George(Midge), Violet (George), Roy (Phyllis), Carroll (Lucy) and Lee (Cindy).
Funeral Services will be held at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 232 Windsor St, Sun Prairie on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 6:00 pm with Pastor Luke Werre officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until time of service.
Memorials may be made to ALS Research or Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer ( MACC Fund)
