Deerfield- Roger Hartman Odland, age 84, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. He was born in Stoughton on April 25, 1927 a son of the late Arvie and Franciska (Krostu) Odland. He married his High School sweetheart Alice Sorum of Deerfield on June 25, 1950. He attended grade school in Stoughton called Odland Country School and then went on to high school in Deerfield where he played baseball, basketball and football. He graduated from Deerfield High School in 1945. After high school he started his own milk hauling business and operated that for 25 years. He sold the business and in January of 1971 started working for the State of WI Department of Transportation as an engineering technician. He worked for them for 18 years retiring in May of 1989. Rod, as he was known by many, enjoyed playing golf, bowling, playing cards (especially poker), going to HoChunk Casino, watching the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks and Wisconsin Men's Basketball games. He and his late wife Alice and other members of their family loved to go to the Wisconsin Badgers Football Games at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. But, most of all, they loved to spend time with their family and their many close friends, like for example, going on trips and going to the Supper Club Parties. He was a member of St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church in Deerfield. Surviving him are his sister-in-law, L. Jean Odland of Stoughton; nieces, Cheryl, Connie and Colleen Stenjem of Deerfield, Cindy (Rob) Weigend of Fairfax, Virginia, Kristen (Derrick) Banes of Beaver Dam and Jeanne Relph of Middleton; nephew, Jim Odland of Clintonville; great nieces, Kim Weigend of Centreville, Virginia, Elizabeth Banes of Beaver Dam and Amy (Mike) Minter of Waunakee; great nephews, Noah Banes of Beaver Dam, Matthew (Michelle) Odland of Wausau and Adam (Shannon) Odland of Eau Claire; great great niece, Nyssa Odland of Wausau; great great nephews, Owen Minter of Waunakee, Nathan Odland of Wausau and Ben Odland of Eau Claire; and other dear relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice in 2002; his parents; parents-in-law, Otto and Mabel (Lund) Sorum; two brothers, Loy Odland and Owen Odland in 2007; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ernie and Almira Stenjem and Jerry and Lillian Sorum. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 10, 2011 at St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church, 3494 Oak Park Road, Deerfield, with Rev. Dan Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at church and from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
