Roger Wiese, age 85, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on Friday, January 23, 2015.
For many years, Roger enjoyed teaching at Van Hise School. After growing up in West Allis, he served in the army for a few years before meeting a Swedish girl named Maj. He convinced her to marry him in 1955 and he taught high school in Kenosha and Manitowoc before settling in Madison.
During the day Roger took pleasure in observing birds and nature, solving logic problems, putting together jigsaw puzzles, playing cards including euchre and sheepshead and always eating dessert, preferably chocolate. Many happy hours of his were spent studying and exploring the world as a scientist, birder, hiker, biker and camper. Roger travelled down back roads, through National Parks, to foreign countries and into the woods. He was logical, precise, grateful, thoughtful, honest, simple and loving.
He is survived by his wife, Maj, his daughter Kristine Wiese (Bob Bauer) and grandson Derek Stoffels; his son Kurt Wiese (Lisa Kirk Wiese), grandson Kevin and granddaughter Erika; and daughter Karina Rathmell (Mark Rathmell), grandson Andrew and granddaughter Sylvia.
He was preceded by his son Karl-Erik.
