The Lord called home Ronald (Ron) Edwin Conard, 71 of Madison, WI, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and son on Jan. 22, 2014. "Ronnie", as he was well-known to his family and friends, was a kind and gentle man who brought much joy to those throughout his life.
Ron was born in Door County on Nov. 21, 1942, to parents Margaret (Lasee) and Edwin. After four years of proudly serving his county in the Navy - where his travels took him around the world - he began a long career in the utility industry. On Sept. 18, 1982, he married his soul mate Judy. His professional career brought him to Chicago where he quickly rose through many levels of management while working for Illinois Bell and AT&T. He later settled in Madison working for utilities including Alliant Energy and lived there for the past 27 years.
Ron was a faithful member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Madison and Holy Name of Mary in Maplewood, WI. Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, beloved mother, Marge Laubenstein, and step-father Donald Laubenstein. He is survived by children Michelle (Bob) Jachim of Elburn, IL; Cheryl (Brad) Riley of St. Charles, IL; Don Elwood of Evansville, WI; Colleen (John) Porter of Pekin, IL and Brian (Katie) Elwood of Hudson, WI; and grandchildren Jessica Riley; Alyssa and Ashley Jachim; Makayla and Hailey Elwood; Eric and Samantha Henson; and Michael, Evelyn and Matthew Elwood.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at HOLY NAME OF MARY CHURCH, 7491 Cty. Trk H, in Maplewood, WI, with Fr. Carl Schmitt presiding. A luncheon will follow. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of the service at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 602 Everglade Dr. Madison, WI 53717.
