Ronald "David" Whitford

Ronald “David” Whitford, age 90, passed away on August 7, 2024 at the U.W. Hospital. He was born on April 10, 1934, in Mayville, Wisconsin, to Ronald and June (Woodhall) Whitford. He graduated from Mayville High School and Milton College. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a Civil Servant from 1960 – 1990 in social service, veteran service, social security disability, and child support areas.

He married Susan C. Hughes, April 15, 1972, in Kenosha, Wisconsin and together they had two children Liz and Tom. From 1990 to 2000 he worked as a Utility Clerk at Super Saver on Verona Road. He was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Social Fraternity; Kegonsa Lodge No. 73, F. and A.M., where he was a Past Master, American Legion Post 59, Stoughton, where he was a former Adjutant, An Eagle Scout as a youth, he served the Boy Scout community for over a decade, as a Scoutmaster of Troop 122, an Assistant District Commissioner, and Eagle Advancement Chairman for Mohawk District. He was a recipient of the District Award of Merit, and Scouters Key, among other scout leader awards. Dave enjoyed traveling, photography, and socializing with family and friends.

He is survived by his former wife, Susan Hughes; daughter, Liz Hughes; sister, Barbara Gruber; brother, Ken (Beth) Whitford; sister, Beth Wettstein; brother-in-law Dan Williams; he is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

David was preceded by his parents; son, Tom Whitford; sister, Ann Louise Williams.

A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. He will be laid to rest at a cemetery in Mayville, Wisconsin at a future date.
