Rosalie Krueger

November 15, 1915 — September 19, 2011

MADISON
On September 19, 2011, Rosalie Krueger, age 95, died at Hospice Care in Fitchburg. She was born in Tampa, Florida in 1915 to Pietro Spoto and Francesca Leto. She had three brothers, John, Jim, and Nikki, and was forever especially close to her sister, Vincinzena. She also had a special affection for her Florida nieces, Frances Laverghetta and Frances Miranda, and for Lucille Merritt (sister-in-law).
As a young adult, she moved to Milwaukee, where she loved experiencing all four seasons. She married Edward George Krueger, II in 1940, and they had a son, Edward (Moria), in 1942. After working most of her life as a proud union-member- seamstress, she enjoyed only a few years of retirement with her husband until his final illness and death in 1988. Eventually, she moved to the Normandy Apartments in Madison to be near her son and three grandchildren, Brandon, Phoebe, and Sebastian Krueger.
Until her last few years, Rosalie enjoyed amazingly good health. That, plus her warm and accepting personality, made her an enthusiastic and welcome participant in the many activities offered at the Normandy Apartments. In her last decade, she made many new friends there, Inez, in particular. Only in her last year did she begin to miss the traditional Sunday evening dinners at her son's home. All three grandchildren have warm memories of her gentle and loving manner and of her incredible chocolate chip cookies. She and Phoebe shared a special affinity. It is bittersweet that she and her only great-grandchild, Penelope, were together just during Rosalie's last days at Hospice.
The circle is unbroken. She died, as she lived, with grace and dignity, loved by family and those who had the good fortune to have known her. Her family appreciates all the many kindnesses shown to her by the Normandy Apartments (especially Jane Sather), Care Wisconsin, Clare Bridge Assisted Living, and Hospice. Two weeks before she died she was asked whether she was afraid of dying. "No", she replied, "it's just a part of life." In that spirit there will be no flowers, no service, just memories. Donations to Hospice Care, Inc. in her name would be welcome.
