Madison -Rosalind Levin passed away peacefully on August 20, 2022 at the age of 91. Roz was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 12, 1931 to Celia and Max Weigler. She graduated from North Division High School in 1948 and the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1952. After having four sons, she earned a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. This was followed by a 25 year teaching career at MATC until her retirement in 1996.
Roz met her husband-to-be, Sol Levin, when they were both 12 years old. They married in 1952 after turning 21 and graduating from college. They enjoyed 49 happy years of marriage until Sol’s death in 2002.
Roz was an active member of Beth Israel Center for more than 60 years. She had many interests, including attending concerts, plays, and lectures, and playing mahjong with friends. She cared deeply about civic matters and volunteered as a poll-worker for many years. She was an avid reader and participated in several book clubs. Most of all, she deeply valued family, and she loved being with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. A memorable family event was the celebration of Roz’s 75th birthday with all of her children and grandchildren in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Roz is survived by sons Dan (Kathy), Jim, Bruce (Mei), and Mark Levin; grandchildren Rebecca (DJ) Silton, Andrew (Joelle Ruben) Levin, Benjamin Levin, and Sarah Levin; great-grandchildren Eli Silton, Abbie Silton, and Ali Levin; sister-in-law Patti Weigler; and her extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Sol, her brother Jordan Weigler, and her daughter-in-law Burr Nelson.
The family is grateful to Andee MacLeod and the devoted caregivers of Ohana Care who provided compassionate, loving care to Roz over these past months.
The funeral service will take place at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, followed by burial at Forest Hill Cemetery.
