Madison -- Rosella M. Kuehn, age 91, died on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at St. Mary's Care Center in Madison. She was born on May 6, 1917 in Madison to John and Mary (Hornung) Schmelzer. Rosella attended St. James Grade School, and Edgewood High School. She received a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Wisconsin -- Madison in 1937. In 1942, Rosella was united in marriage to Alfred Kuehn, and he preceded her in death in 1977. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority, Catholic Woman's Club, the National Catholic Society of Foresters, and several bowling leagues. Rosella also loved to play cards. She re-entered the workforce at the age of 59, working for the State of Wisconsin for 20 years before retiring. As was typical, she made many lifelong friends. Rosella is survived by her three children, Jim Kuehn, Tom (Patty) Kuehn, and Rosemary Kuehn; a daughter-in-law, Koreen Kuehn; grandchildren, Kristi, Kerri, Bridget, Lora, Brian, T.J. Dan, Betsy, Scott, and Chris; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Joseph; and two brothers, Vic and Phil. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Drive, Madison with Father Todd Van Natta officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. The family requests any memorials be given to St. Mary's Care Center, 3401 Maple Grove Drive, Madison, WI 53719, or the Endowment Fund at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
