Roy C. Johnson

Madison - Roy C Johnson passed away peacefully on Friday, July 21, 2023 at Riverwood Senior Living in Wisconsin Dells.

He was born on March 5th, 1937, to Roy and Agnes Johnson in Madison, WI.  Due to illness Roy became legally deaf at a young age.  He worked hard to live with a hearing impairment and didn’t let that stop him from living a full life.

He spent some of his early years in Madison where his grandfather was fire chief and also time in his beloved Jump River.  He would often talk about how much he enjoyed growing up in Northern Wisconsin.  He cherished time visiting family and feasting on home cooked meals.

Roy was a draftsman for the State of Wisconsin and Madison Metropolitan Sewage District.  One of his jobs was to draw every room at UW Hospital during construction phase and detailing out every electrical and oxygen outlet, as well as every light switch.  Roy was a very patient man as this effort took two years to complete.

Roy loved the outdoors and spent many hours running, biking and skiing.  He would run several miles just for fun of it.   He was lifetime member of the National Ski Patrol, serving on the ski patrol at Cascade until he was 80.

Roy’s faith was very important to him, and he read his bible daily.  He was an avid reader of World War 2 history, autobiographies, all things airplanes and drawing.

Roy is survived by his sister Mary (Gary) Grovesteen of Tomah, his brother David Johnson of Madison.  In addition to his parents, he is proceeded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Carl Johnson (Deloris) of Sauk City.

He is further survived by nieces and nephews, Sue (Jerome) Ballweg, Deb (Steve-deceased) Harman, Karen(Kevin) Ripp, Steve(Jerilyn) Johnson, Greg(Colleen) Grovesteen, Mitchell Grovesteen, Gayle Fisher, Meredith Grovesteen and Matthew Grovesteen.  18 great nieces and nephews and 12 great great nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Agrace Hospice and Riverwood Senior Living for the exceptional care given to Roy.

A private graveside services will be held.
