Ruth was born on April 10, 1915 to Helene and Theodore Ahrensmeyer. She graduated from East High School and later married Clifford Schmitt. She always loved sports and when she was 16, she won the women's city horseshoe contest and was pitcher for the women's softball team. She worked at a pharmacy for ten dollars a week after she graduated. When her son Cliff joined the Cub Scouts at Lowell School, she and her husband, who was Cub Master, worked extra hours at benefits to make sure the cubs could go to camp in the summer.  After her husband died April 30, 1965, Ruth worked many years, taking care of small children for working parents. When Ruth was 55 years old you could still see her ice skating at Olbrich Park! She also loved music and had an organ which she played almost every day. Mostly the Straus Waltzes. She also read many, many books! Ruth was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church for over 50 years.  Surviving is a son Clifford (Kathy) of Sun Prairie; 3 grandchildren: Ty (Kerry) of Madison, Reagan (George) of Minneapolis, Phyllis (Alan) of Salem, OR; and 4 great grandchildren: Andrew, Aaron and Austin of Sauk City and Caitlin Arthur of Salem, OR. Her husband, two brothers: Earl and Roy and one sister Helen Narf preceded her in death.  A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, September 4 at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK.Â
