Ruth Schulz

July 29, 1932 — August 6, 2018

Sun Prairie/Lodi - Ruth H. Schulz passed away on Monday, August 6, with her daughter Rosie by her side. Ruth was born on July 29, 1932 in Bad Polzin, Pommern (Germany), the daughter of Bruno and Herta (Rietzke) Degner. She married Génter W. Schulz in the Morizkirche in Coburg, Germany in 1952, and they moved to Sun Prairie, Wisconsin in 1956.

Ruth was our Mutti, our Mom, our Oma. She was a professional seamstress, and a spectacular cook and gardener. Her tortes were legendary, and she passed her love of cooking, baking, and gardening to her children and grandchildren. She loved without reservation, and her kindness and smile stayed with her until the end. She was a member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church since she first arrived in Sun Prairie. Our family would like to thank the staff at Agrace who helped Mom through the final week of her life, as well as the staff at Haven Hills in Lodi, where she was cared for and spent the last few months of her life following Dad's passing. We would also like to thank Dr. Newquist, who cared for her for many years. Special thanks to Mom's many friends whose visits she enjoyed over the years, especially neighbors Becky, and Josephine and Dennis and their children. The family will have a private graveside service at a later date.

Ruth is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Rosie and John Putman, daughter-in-law Vicki Schulz, her grandchildren whom she loved so much: Erika Schulz (Matthew Schmidt), Tristan (Kelsey Stetson) Schulz, Katrina Putman, Alee Putman, and Justin Putman (Genna Burgess), and great-grandson, Sawyer. She is further survived by her sister, Margot Johannes, and brother- and sister-in-law, Erhard and Elfriede Schulz. Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Génter, on May 3, 2018, her cherished son, Michael, on April 8, 2018, and her sister-in-law Anneliese Augustin. Please share your memories of Ruth.

"Und meine Seele spannte
Weite ihre Flégel aus,
Flog durch die stillen Lande,
Als flége sie nach Haus."

[And my soul stretched
its wings out wide,
flew through the silent lands
as though it were flying home.]
~ Joseph Freiherr von Eichendorff
