Ruth Virginia Seger

Ruth Virginia (Hall) Seger, 99, passed away January 12, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital under the care of Agrace Hospice. She had made her home at Attic Angel Community for the past 17 years.

Ruth was born January 14, 1925, in Waterloo, Iowa. She was the daughter of Emma and Vern Hall. She married William (Bill) Seger after his service in World War II. Together they raised a daughter, Sarah (Seger) Lancaster and a son, William F. (Fred) Seger. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her older sister, Dorothy Wilcox. She leaves behind her children; grandsons, Ben (Beth) Lancaster and Sam Lancaster; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Karina Lancaster; her younger sister, Mary Goetsch, nieces and nephews.

Ruth was a real ‘go-getter’ and the ultimate ‘people person’. She was extremely talented in the arts, sports, and business world. She was an accomplished artist beginning in high school placing in the Mademoiselle Magazine Fashion Design Contest. Ruth made an impression in the world of drawing, needlework, and quilting. Her quilts were exhibited in numerous shows. Later in life, her portrait drawings were enjoyed by family, friends, and staff at Attic Angel. Ruth became a tennis enthusiast after she and Bill retired full-time to Florida. She loved her bridge groups in Waterloo, Florida, and Attic Angel.

When Ruth moved to Attic Angel she ‘beelined’ for the Resident Council. She knew the workings of a board from her experience as mayor of her Iowa town where she and Bill lived after early retirement. Ruth loved her job in the business office at a Waterloo high school and later partnering with Bill in the family insurance agency. In Florida, Ruth was elected President of their condo association.

Ruth was talented, creative, ambitious, and a friend to all who knew her. Most importantly, she was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

A celebration of her life will be held Friday, January 31, 10:00 in the Community Room at Attic Angel Place.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Attic Angel Place and Agrace Hospice. Thank you to all who cared for Ruth.
