Ruth Alice Ziegler

Waunakee/Westport- Alice Ruth Ziegler, age 91, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2010. She was born on January 1, 1919 in Middleton the daughter of George Sr. & Bertha (Becker) Middleton. Alice was united in marriage to Roman Ziegler on September 27, 1938 at St. Mary of The Lake Catholic Church, Westport and together they farmed and raised their family in Westport. They were married for over 66 years until Roman's death in 2004. After working side by side on the farm with Roman, she also worked for over 20 years at Jack Burke's-Mariner's Inn. Her first love was her family but she also loved gardening and crocheted many afghans for family and friends. Alice was a member of St. Mary of The Lake Catholic Church and the Altar Society since 1938. She is survived by her children, Margaret (Leroy) Wipperfurth, Rosemary Meffert (fiancee Gary Engle), David (Ruth) Ziegler and Linda (Fred) Meinholz; she will be greatly missed by her eleven grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and two step great- great grandchildren; her sister, Elizabeth (Herbert) Meuhlmann; sisters-in-law, Eva Middleton and Dorothy Middleton; brother-in-law, Richard Ziegler; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Barney, Mary, Harry, Betty and George Jr., and one great-grandchild Chad Esser. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of The Lake, 5460 Mary Lake Road, Westport with Msgr. James Gunn presiding. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. ""Mom we will all miss your prayers and loving thoughts.""
