My Brother and dearest friend, Scott Vaughn passed away on Feb. 16 at the age of 58. Scott Alan Vaughn, son of Wallen and Lenore Vaughn, was born in Madison, Wisconsin on December 7, 1953. Scott impacted the lives of so many through his work, friendships, spirit of adventure, generosity, and family ties.
"The Commodore" Scott, led the parade of Madisonians to Alaska shortly after high school where he worked various jobs, explored the wilderness, built his own cabin, and even a small resort composed of smaller cabins. He also worked for the Operating Engineers as a heavy equipment operator and union mediator. One time he was stranded in the wilderness when the bush pilot who had dropped him off forgot to pick him up. Not to panic, Scott climbed into his kayak with his two puppy sled dogs and navigated the swollen stream the 75 or so miles to safety. Adventure was in his blood. Upon returning to Madison he worked as a union official. He received several awards through his jobs, and during his youth achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout. Off all his passions, the one that stood out the most was him being a lifetime collector extraordinaire and treasure hunter. Scott loved antiques, artifacts, and anything to do with Alaska and the Polar Regions. His home was like a museum and library.
Most of all, Scott loved his only niece Tia. He had a great influence on her appreciation and protection for the outdoors. We will all remember Scott and his beloved cabin and the wonderful times we had.
Scott will be deeply missed by family and friends, including his brother Jeff (Julia) Vaughn, and niece Tewosret "Tia" Vaughn, Uncle Dale Hinz, cousin Russell (Kirsten) Hinz, children Stephan and Nina, cousin Charly Vaughn, cousin Frank (Sandra) Vaughn, children Emily (Jason) Vaughn and Melanie Vaughn, cousin Steve (Kristine) Vaughn, life long friend Jay Selix and many other close friends, aunts, uncles, and his dog Rowdy.
Scott was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Wallen and Lenore Vaughn, grandparents, and aunts and uncles.
All of our hearts are on the ground.
