SUN PRAIRIE (formerly of Woodward, OK)- Sharon C. (Reed) Durand, age 78, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023, the day before her 79th birthday. She was born on August 7, 1944, in Dallas, TX, the second child to Iven and Helen (Jones) Reed.
Sharon raised her two children, Carlena and Clint in Kilgore, TX where she honed her skills of creating Barbie clothes by hand for her daughter. She would sew and embellish each individual piece by hand. Sharon was a connoisseur of crafting and spent hours creating intricate beading pieces, crochet, cross stitch, among others. She was also an avid collector of hand-blown glass and prided herself in her ever-growing display of crystal and glass artwork, a love that she closely shared with her niece, Teresa.
In 1981, Sharon married her husband, Gil and relocated to Woodward, OK in 1986, and thrived as a homemaker during her marriage. Her love of animals brought feral cats to her home where there was always food, water, and shelter for all.
In 2017, Sharon moved to Sun Prairie to spend her twilight years with her sister, Elaine. Over their years together, they supported each other through numerous illnesses, and the challenges of growing older. It was in Wisconsin, that Sharon developed a close bond with her niece, Teresa, who became her fierce protector, caretaker, confidant, and her biggest cheerleader.
Sharon was enamored with wildlife, watching, and feeding birds and cottontails each day. It was this love of nature that led Sharon to crochet over two hundred baby pouches for Wisconsin Wildcare’s neonatal opossums, squirrels, and raccoons. She enjoyed watching the fostered wildlife babies grow and flourish.
Sharon is survived by her husband Gilbert Durand of Woodville, TX; children Carlena (Charles) Reddic of Baytown, TX and Clint (Shaye) Cagle of Kilgore, TX; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Sharon is further survived by her sister Betty “Elaine” Satterwhite, her niece Teresa (David) Dodd of Sun Prairie with their children Kendall Goodballet and Rebecca Harrison; her great niece Kyra Harrison; and her nephew Donald Burns of Carrollton, TX, and many relatives and dear friends.
Sharon will now be reunited with her parents Iven and Helen and numerous loved furry friends, such as her late dogs, Sebastian, and Little Boy.
Sharon was preceded in death by her grandfather and grandmother Verna “Pops” and Vera “Hootnanny” Jones, her father Iven Reed, mother Helen Crouch, and sister Patricia Burns.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations sent to Albert’s Dog Lounge Rescue in Whitewater, WI or Wisconsin Wildcare in Deforest, WI.
