STOUGHTON- Sheldon E. "Shel" Lueck, aged 62, of Stoughton, bravely left this life on Tuesday March 20, 2012 after a lengthy battle with cancer in his Stoughton home in the arms of his loved ones. Sheldon was born June 17, 1949 in Wisconsin Rapids, the son of Elmer and Caroline (Eskritt) Lueck. Shel grew up playing sports and lettered in football and track in high school. He graduated with honors from Lincoln High School in 1967, and from UW Stevens Point with degrees in zoology and medical technology. During his time at Stevens Point, Sheldon enlisted in the United States Army. Shel came into active duty in 1972, and after various promotions and location changes he was transferred to Bremerhaven Germany. In 1983 he married the love of his life Cynthia Torres, an Army nurse, in Denmark. In 1988 Shel, and Cindy, found themselves at Fort Ord CA. and on April 25 they welcomed their son Christopher into the world. A short time later Shel left the military and chose to move his new family home to Wisconsin. Shel soon found a career in medical technology at UW Hospital in Madison where he worked from 1989 to the present. Shel loved his family, and always found time between his love of home repair and gardening to spend time with them. Among his passions Shel was a lifelong fan of the Packers, Brewers, and collegiate sports. Shel doted on his son and could always be found cheering loudly from the stands for him, and most recently for his college graduation. Many weekends of Shel's life were spent traveling and biking with Cindy, a lifelong passion they both shared. Shel will be remembered for his kindness and positive attitude toward the cancer he never stopped believing he would beat. Sheldon is survived by his loving wife, Cindy, of 28 years and his son Christopher; sisters Sharon (Lee) Foesh and Pamela (Carl) Hilke ; and nephews Steve (Betsy) Foesh and Brian Foesh; and mother-in-law Pura Golderos. Sheldon's family would like to extend a very special thanks to the staff at Stoughton and UW Hospitals, Gilda's Club of Madison, Doctors Hoang and Lubner of UW Madison, and to Agrace Hospice care. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at ST. ANN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 323 N Van Buren St., Stoughton, with Msgr. Gerard Healy officiating. A visitation will take place at Cress Funeral Home, 206 W. Prospect St., Stoughton on Friday, March 23, 2012 from 5-7 pm with an addition visitation to take place at church an hour prior to the service.
