Shirley Moore Alwin, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, after an extended illness in Hanover, Pa. She was the wife of the late Robert H. Alwin. Born in Milwaukee, she moved with her family to Madison where she graduated from Madison East High School. She and her husband, Bob, along with their young family later moved to Florida in 1957. She received her master's degree from the University of South Florida and taught reading in the Pinellas County School District. She and Bob traveled extensively in their later years and remained unselfishly devoted to their children and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Joan of Belleair, Fla.; a son, Mark and his wife, Jackie, Alwin of York, Pa.; and two grandchildren, Kristen Carbone of Oviedo, Fla. and Matthew of Belleair, Fla. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at ST. BERNARD'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Avenue, Madison, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Services will conclude with burial for both Shirley and her late husband, Bob, in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 517 N. Segoe Road, Madison, WI 53705.
