Shirley Gruenisen

Madison - Shirley Gruenisen, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Attic Angels Place, Madison WI, where she resided with their exceptional care. Shirley was born in Milwaukee, WI on November 27, 1924, daughter of Roland Flath and Lillian (Kaeding) Flath. She graduated from the UW Madison in 1947 and was married to Allan Gruenisen that same year. They met at Elizabeth Waters hall where she was a resident, and he was a waiter. Thereafter, Allan and Shirley enjoyed 57 years of marriage until her husband's death in 2004. They resided in the Hill Farms and Parkwood Hills, Madison, and spent many happy days at their vacation home in Egg Harbor WI. Shirley was a homemaker and mother, and also enjoyed gardening, volunteering at Attic Angels, P.E.O, Pi Beta Phi Alumni, and social sports.

Shirley is survived by her children, Gary (Karen) Gruenisen of Madison, and, Gayle Gruenisen, of Boulder CO; grandchildren, Tim (Jenni) Gruenisen, Lisa (David) Kloskin, Scott Clarke, Gwen Clarke, and Chris (Emily) Clarke; seven great-grandchildren with one on the way.

The Gruenisen family is very grateful to the staff at Attic Angels Place, Agrace Hospice, and Helen Becker, her friend, and caregiver.

Memorials may be made to Attic Angels Place or Agrace Hospice. Private services are planned.
