Shirley Haase

May 21, 1928 — December 1, 2020

Middleton:   Shirley Mae Haase, 92, went to heaven on December 1, 2020. The Beloved sister of the late Richard Onstad and the beloved identical twin to late Sharon Marie Splaine.

The loving mother of Kathryn Noelle Lawler, John Michael Haase and William Onstad Haase. Loving grandmother to the late Nathan Michael Haase, Alexandra Marie Synnott, Jessica Emily Haase, Claire Noelle Lawler and James Braeden Lawler.

Shirley truly made hundreds of lives brighter by her lifetime of service.  She volunteered for several organizations including over three thousand hours with the Attic Angel Community. At a time when there was very little opportunity for those with disabilities, Shirley learned to transcribe books into braille and followed that up with swim lessons for the sight impaired. What a gift!

Due to her love of children and her big heart she spent hours fixing broken American Girl dolls, clothes and furniture to be donated. One activity that she was most proud of is teaching water ballet and then creating and directing shows for the local swimming pools. In the winters she was a children’s ski instructor at Tyrol Basin until late in her life.

Our mother had many, many good friends. Active in a number of social groups she always made sure that everyone was invited up north to the family cottage every summer. Each weekend three or four families would drive up to Waupaca Wisconsin on Friday nights and have a lot of fun swimming, boating and playing card games late into the night.  All remember Shirley as one of the most generous friends you could ever have.

Devoutly religious, she helped teach Sunday school and loved singing both for St. Luke’s Church and the Middleton Civic Choir. Shirley believed that one day she would be reunited with her family in heaven and see her treasured twin sister again.  A new smiling angel is looking down and taking care of us. Big hugs to Shirley for all of the amazing memories, and we will all see you again someday. We love you always and forever.

“What we have once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose,

for all that we love deeply becomes part of us”   Helen Keller
