Shirley Joan Johnson, age 85, of Madison, WI (formerly of Janesville) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday January 3, 2015, at home. She was born September 15, 1929 in Milwaukee, the daughter of Wilbur J. and Helen S. (Trotter) Heuer. Shirley was a 1947 Edgerton High School graduate, and participated in Badger Girls State. She was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority while attending the U.W. Madison. She married Joseph K. Johnson on February 10, 1951 at First Lutheran Church in Janesville and was an active member in that church.
Upon moving to Madison in 1969, Shirley became a member of Midvale Community Lutheran Church. She had a special love and devotion to her parents and family. She was a wonderful friend to many, including her grade school friends "The Turtles". She was widely known as the keeper of the family history. Shirley was loved for her fantastic sense of humor. Thru the years, Shirley enjoyed golf, bridge, quilting, and book clubs. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Shirley is survived by her son James L. (Ann) Johnson of Janesville; daughter Susan P. Johnson of Madison; grandchildren Jennifer Johnson, William (Cassie) Johnson, Charles Johnson; great grandson Rory Johnson; brothers Thomas Heuer and James (Luceil) Heuer. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, son Joseph B. Johnson and her sister Patricia Eckhardt.
A funeral will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday January 10, 2015 at MIDVALE COMMUNITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4329 Tokay Blvd. Madison with Rev. Katie Baardseth presiding. A visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Midvale Community Lutheran Church or The American Heart Association.
