Shirley Joyce Motl - 88 years old of Sun Prairie, WI, passed peacefully on Friday, March 29, 2019, at Agrace HospiceCare after a long struggle with dementia.
Born on April 30, 1930 in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of Irvin Marx and Annabelle (Paul) Drew, Shirley grew up on the south side of Milwaukee. She often shared fond memories of her childhood with her sister Ruth, taking the five-cent trolley downtown to visit their mother who worked at Gimbels as a cashier, and tobogganing with friends at Mitchell Park. Shirley attended Girls Tech HS and worked at the A&P as a teen.
Through mutual friends Shirley met and fell in love with Thomas Leroy Motl of Marshall, WI. They married on June 23, 1951 at the Basilica of St. Josaphat in Milwaukee. They settled in Sun Prairie, WI where they raised their four sons.
Shirley loved animals, especially her horse, King, and her dog, Birdie. She was an enthusiastic gardener, an excellent cook, enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends, was a loyal Badger and Packer fan, and in recent years became a huge baseball fan! Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter who was a nurturing caregiver. She also had a huge heart for helping out the elderly in her community.
Survived by her loving sons, Jeff (Kathy) Motl of Palatka, FL, Timm (Christine) Motl of Las Vegas, NV, Nick Motl of Sun Prairie, Kevin (Mary) Motl of Burnsville, MN; 8 grandchildren: Mark (Lindsey) Motl, Christopher (Christina) Motl, Sarah P. Motl, Matt (Robyn) Motl, Alex Motl, Kyle (Lauren) Motl, Mandy Motl, Daniel Motl; and 9 great- grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin Marx, Annabelle (nee Martinek) Drew, step-father, Paul Drew, her husband, Thomas Motl, sister, Ruth Pucek, and granddaughter Sarah A. Motl.
