Madison -- Shirley J. Ossmann, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital.  She now joins her beloved husband, Ken, who passed away three years before her.  Shirley June Wegner was born on February 12, 1922 in Prairie du Sac, WI, the daughter of Floyd and Emma (Preuss) Wegner.  When she was a young girl, the family moved to Madison where Shirley spent the rest of her life.  Graduation from West High School in 1940 was followed by two years of study at the UW-Madison before she married Kenneth Ossmann on May 8, 19 42 in Dubuque, Iowa .  Ken enlisted in the United States Air Force in the fall of 1942 and Shirley traveled with him to Big Spring, Texas, where he was stationed at Webb Air Force Base.  Following WWII, the young couple returned home to Madison to settle down and raise a family.  Shirley was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother to their daughter, Susan, and belonged to many civic organizations.  While Ken was active in the Zor Shrine, Shirley joined the Daughters of the Nile, the women's counterpart, where she had been an active member for over 50 years.  Shirley loved life, her family and friends.  She marveled at the accomplishments of her grandsons, Brian and Daniel, and was ever-joyful at the antics of two-year-old Chloe, her great-granddaughter.  Always the kind and caring soul, Shirley continued to insist that she was just fine' and no one should worry about her until she could no longer express her thoughts.  Shirley is survived by her daughter, Susan (Jim) Post of Janesville; two grandsons, Brian and Daniel Post both of Janesville ; a great-granddaughter, Chloe Post; two brothers, Allan Wegner of Madison and Gene (Carol) Wegner of Mesa, Arizona; nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.  Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Ken, her parents and an infant sister. Funeral services will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Rd., on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 11:00 am with Reverend Gene VanGalder officiating.  A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:00 am until the time of services.  Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 1:00 pm at the Prairie du Sac Cemetery.  Memorials may be made in memory of Shirley to the Shriners' Hospital for Crippled Children, 2211 North Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60707-3392 or to the charity of the donor's choice in Shirley's name.
