Sibyl I. Carmichael

Sun Prairie – Sibyl Irene (Schlatter) Carmichael, age 89, passed away at Agrace HospiceCare on May 2, 2024, with her family by her side.   Sibyl was born on April 8, 1935, at St. Catherine’s Hospital in East Chicago, IN.  She was the second child of Irene (Samonson) Schlatter and Chester Schlatter.  Their first child, John George “Jack” died as a result of an automobile accident in 1933 at 18 months.

Sibyl grew up in Whiting, IN. and graduated from Clark High School.  She married her high school sweetheart Peter Carmichael.  She was a Medical Transcriptionist for 30 years, of which 25 were at St Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI.  Her favorite leisure activities were enjoying in her children’s extracurricular activities, reading, and extensive traveling.  Her most enjoyable trips were her yearly sojourns to Dolphin Way at Bonita Beach, FL.

She is survived by her children Laura (Robert) LaRue, Scott Carmichael (Jimmy Sparks), Timothy Carmichael and Christopher Carmichael; one grandchild Chelsea LaRue; and one great-grandchild Adelynn Grace Phillips.  Sibyl is further survived by cousins, nieces, nephews and many loving friends.

Sibyl was preceded in death by her parents, her infant brother, and her husband Peter.  

A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday May 7, 2024, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, WI 53590.  Interment at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond, IN will be at a later date.
