Sidney Nowland

Madison - Sidney Michael Nowland, age 58 passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 19, 2017 following complications from a house fire. Sidney was greeted at heaven's gates by his dear cat Sparky. They are now reunited.

Sidney was born on February 13, 1959 in Wiesbaden, Germany, the son of Donald and Sharon (Peck) Nowland. He has been a member of the Eastside Al-Anon for many years. During that time, he has really embraced the friends he has made, volunteered his time and taken the design, upkeep and maintenance of the garden under his wing. If you ever become sad or miss Sidney take a moment to drive to the Eastside Al-Anon garden to simply reflect. The spirit of Sidney gleams throughout the entire garden. He has also volunteered his time with Alcoholics Anonymous. Sidney worked for many years as a hairdresser and most recently at Love and Light Hairdressing. He had an amazing ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved. Instantly his clients became dear friends. Sidney enjoyed to keep busy and being in the outdoors. He treasured taking walks especially in the park, gardening, being by the river, making bad jokes, taking pictures and blowing bubbles. His sense of humor would shine brightly when he would chase the neighbor children around the yard with his cane. Sidney was an extremely talented artist. He enjoyed drawing, painting and painting on shells. Sidney had an infectious personality, which made many people want to be around him, his loving heart was made of gold and his sense of humor had the ability to lift spirits and made many laughs. Sidney cherished time spent with his family and numerous friends. He touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Sidney is survived by his best friend; Tommy Ngo, his parents; Donald and Sharon Nowland, his three siblings; Rick (Vicie) Nowland, Kelly (Jeff) Benzing and Randy Nowland. He is also survived by many other loving family and numerous friends (too many to count).
He is preceded in death by his brother Rich, sister Debbie, his cat Sparky.

Funeral services will be held at CRESS FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICE, 3325 E. Washington Ave., Madison on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 4:00 pm with Reverend Erich Hartenberger. A time to visit and gather will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home from 2:00p until the time of services at 4:00pm.

The family would like to extend a special thank you everyone with the emergency response team, Sidney's neighbors and Love and Light Hairdressing for all their love, care and compassion given to the family during this difficult time.
