Sophia Johansson

October 1, 2002 — February 10, 2018

Sun Prairie - Sophia Rose Johansson, 15 years old of Sun Prairie, went to be with her Father in Heaven, surrounded by family after a sudden illness in the ICU of American Family Children's Hospital on Saturday, February 10th, 2018. Born full term weighing only 4 lbs., her life had been challenging from the beginning, but that just made her stronger.

We thank God for her life and the joy she brought us. She loved her family, friends, and any baby she met with her whole heart. It was the simple things in life that brought her so much joy, car washes (only to watch and not be inside), Culvers frozen custard, M&M's, Chinese food, airplanes, elevators, and her Grandma's spaghetti recipe.

A highlight for her was going to Disneyland last year while visiting Grandma and Grandpa where she got the Royal Treatment by getting dressed up like her favorite princess "Cinderella" and then got to meet her in person! She also had the opportunity to visit Sweden and see her Farmor (Lennart's mom) as well as be there for her cousin's wedding. Another highlight of her life was being able to participate in the "Penguin Project" of Sun Prairie Civic Theatre. "The Penguin Project" is a program that gives teens and young adults with special needs an opportunity to star in a community theatre production. She starred in "Annie" and "Guys and Dolls". This opportunity gave her so much pride to have something all her own to participate in. She counted down the days until rehearsals began again. She loved to sing and also enjoyed choir at school. Her classmates in choir were always so inclusive and understanding of her singing off key or at the wrong times. Her teachers saw and loved her specialness. Sophia is survived by her parents, Lennart and Susan Johansson, her siblings, Alex and Emma, maternal Grandparents Clint and Naomi Trice of California, maternal aunt and uncle Sheri and Doug Coning and cousins, Andrew, Cheyenne, Tim, and Abby of Ohio, as well as her family in Sweden, paternal Grandma "Farmor" Inga-Britt Johansson, paternal uncle and aunt Urban and Sanna Johansson and cousins, Patricia, Simon, Sebastian, and Siri of Sweden.

Sophia is preceded in death by her paternal Grandpa "Farfar" Stig of Sweden. Sophia's Celebration of Life is open to the community and will take place on Sunday, February 25th at 4 p.m. at the SUN PRAIRIE PREFORMING ARTS CENTER located at the High School, 888 Grove Street, Sun Prairie, WI 53590. This stage means a lot to Sophia and her family, as this is the space where she performed with the Penguin Project and school choir concerts.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions given to the Penguin Project www.sunprairiecivictheatre.com indicating it is for that program and/or also to the Sun Prairie Performing Arts Center www.SPPerformingarts.org . Sophia's family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone at the American Family Children's hospital for their tireless efforts to help. They did everything they could. We're thankful to our friends Linda & Randy Jones for their care and love for Sophia and to Dr. Alison Craig, of Group Health Cooperative, for being by her side the whole time and for the comfort she gave to Sophia's family. We are also very grateful for our other friends, family, and community members who are supporting us during this time.
