Sophie Sweet

Madison / Chandler, Arizona - Sophie Sweet, age 85, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2010 in Chandler, Arizona following a lengthy illness. Sophie was born January 15, 1924, the youngest child of Hyman and Ida Lessack of Chicago, Illinois.   Sophie resided in Wisconsin most of her life, first in Beaver Dam and then in Madison. She shared her love of music with so many and often played piano at local weddings. Sophie's passion was being of service to the Jewish community as a very active member of the Sisterhood at Beth Israel Center and at the Madison Jewish Community Council. Be it cooking or bookkeeping she was often the first to arrive and the last to leave. She will be loved and remembered by many friends in Madison.   Surviving Sophie are her three children, Larry (Sandra) of Northbrook, Illinois, Nori (Stan) Nathanson of Chandler, Arizona and Mark (Linda) of Wisconsin Dells; and her four grandchildren, Nicole, Joel, and Bryan Nathanson and Bradley Sweet.   A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Cress Funeral Home 3610 Speedway Road, with Rabbi Joshua Ben Gideon officiating.
