Monona-Stanley J. Knabe, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Riverside Medical Center, Waupaca. He was born on January 23, 1923 in Madison the son of Henry & Alice (Meuer) Knabe. Stanley was a lifelong resident of the Madison area. He was honored to serve with the U.S. Army in WW II and the Korean War. Mr. Knabe was a member of V.F.W. Post #8483, American Legion Post #429 and D.A.V. all of Madison. He was a longtime volunteer at the V.A. Hospital, Madison. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Paul & Wallace and a sister Marie Handford. He is survived by his nephews, Thomas (Karen) Handford and Timothy (Mary Ann) Knabe; niece, Karen (Jack) Freeman; other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Roselawn Memorial Park Chapel, 401 Femrite Dr., Monona. Graveside military rites will be presented by the Madison Area Veterans Firing Squad. Friends are invited to call on Monday at the chapel from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
