Stephen ""Steve"" P. Harman

September 7, 1961 — July 15, 2010

Waunakee -- Stephen ""Steve"" P. Harman, age 48, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2010 surrounded by his loving family following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.   He was born on September 7, 1961in Baraboo, the son of Paul and Donna (Koehler) Harman.   Throughout his childhood he enjoyed spending time on the Harman family farm.   On August 14, 1982, Steve married his childhood sweetheart, Debra ""Deb"" Johnson.   Together they raised three beautiful children. Steve was a Christian man who gave his life for his wife and children even through his illness.   He was an awesome husband and father, who supported his family in whatever adventures they took on.   Kind, patient, caring, helpful, talented and loving are adjectives that best described Steve.    Most importantly he was a kid at heart. He enjoyed coaching youth football, soccer and t-ball.   His philosophy was if you learned something and had a good time doing it, then he had done his job.   Steve was a devoted member of Crossroads United Methodist Church, where he served on numerous boards and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Faithful Men's Gospel Quartet, who together recorded three CD's. For many years, Steve worked as a civil engineer for the University of Wisconsin-Madison.   He truly enjoyed his job and was widely respected by his co-workers.   In his spare time he was an avid Packer fan. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and boating with his family.    Steve touched so many hearts and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Deb of 28 years; three children; Matthew, Michael and Megan all of Waunakee, his parents; Paul and Donna Harman of Sauk City, brother, Dave (Amy) Harman of Waunakee; sister, Jean (James) Hodges of Sauk City; father-in-law, Carl Johnson of Sauk City; two sisters-in-law, Sue (Jerome) Ballweg of Roxbury, Karen (Kevin) Ripp of Waunakee; a brother-in-law, Steve (Jerilyn) Johnson of Loganville; ten nieces and newphews, Kasey, Brett, Morgan, Marly, Raquel, Kaitlyn, Karissa, Josh, Alyse and Danielle.   He is also survived by many other loving family and friends.   Steve was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and mother-in-law, Dee Johnson.   Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 6101 University Ave., Madison at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Paola Benecchi and Reverend Sharon L.S. Cook officiating.   A visitation will be held at WINN-CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 5785 Hwy Q, Waunakee on Monday, July 19, 2010 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm and at the church on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 in Madison from 10:00 am until the time of services.   Graveside services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 11:00 am.   A memorial fund is being established for his children in memory of their father.   The family can not begin to express their gratitude to everyone during this difficult time.   They feel so blessed by the countless and generous acts of kindness and the many thoughts and prayers. ""To a wonderful husband and father...you are the best that anyone could have asked for. You will remain in our hearts forever, we love you and we'll miss you so much.""
