Steve Arthur Hansen, 67, of Waunakee, died peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison surrounded by his family.
Steve was born February 17, 1945, in Portage, Wisconsin; the son of Henry and Myra (Deschane) Hansen. He married Sue Lindgren on October 13, 1979 in Madison.
Steve spent most of his professional life as an AODA Counselor, most recently with Newstart, retiring in 2004. Self-described as a kid that never grew up, he loved to make people laugh and used this humor along with his unwavering commitment to education to teach adults and kids, alike, the value of learning.
Steve is remembered for his love of life itself. Whether it was traveling to Italy with Sue, spending time with his grandchildren, fishing for salmon in Door County, or reading a book in his favorite chair, Steve found joy in everything. He treasured the beauty he saw in all that he did and would remind us to slow down, take a minute to look around, and modeled this behavior often.
Survivors include his wife, Sue, and children Chris (Nadya) Hansen of Madison and Kjersten (Erik) Busse of Waunakee; three grandchildren, Paul, Sam and Kalyna; sister, Linda (Jay) Cook of Stevens Point and nephew Steve; cousins Christine (Mike) Glancey, Ruth (Mike) Rachel, Jim Hansen, Geoff (Angie) Hansen, Paul (Dee Ann) Hansen; in-laws Gary (Sue) Lindgren, Jane (Joe) Krzos, Faye (Doug) Davis, Gail (Pat) Evans, David Lindgren, and Joan (Bruce) Bennett; nieces and nephews Karen and Kris, Sarah and Ryan, Cassie and Whitney, Charlie and Tom, Nick and Stacy, and Jay, Mark, and Sam.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Myra Hansen; sister, Diane Fuller; uncle, Arthur Hansen; and niece, Jennifer Krzos.
A visitation will be held at Winn-Cress Funeral Home, 5785 Hwy Q, Waunakee, WI on Monday, July 30 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 209 South Street, Waunakee. Msgr. James Gunn will officiate. Friends may visit the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to the time of services.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at UW Hospital and Clinics for the exceptional care, compassion, and support given to Steve while he was there.
