Steven Engle

Steven P. Engle, age 64, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes, October 30, 2011. Steve was born in Yonkers, NY on June 1, 1947, son of Jerome and Mildred Engle. He made Wisconsin his home after graduating from UW Madison with a Geology degree.
Steve started and maintained a painting business and eventually accepted a job as a painter for the University. After 24 years as a painter for Memorial Union, he retired in 2009 as a painter emeritus.
Steve was an avid golfer, gardener, "fix it" guy and general activity coordinator. He taught various mini courses predominantly matting, framing and computer photo shop.
To quote a friend "Steve was the nicest, most helpful person imaginable. We sometimes thought of him as "Steve Angel".
A selfless energetic person, he was generous with his time and many skills. He was quick to lend a hand. He will truly be missed by many people.
Steve is survived by his son Fred; his wife Jean Thuerer; brother Harold; extended family and many friends.
To honor and celebrate Steve's life, a casual gathering will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2011 from 3:00-8:00 pm at Tripp Commons in the Memorial Union, Madison. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to The Steve Engle Wisconsin Union Art Purchase Fund.
