Steven "Steve" B. Liegel

Steven “Steve” B Liegel, age 59 of Sun Prairie passed away on Sunday June 16, 2024 in Madison, WI. He was born on April 4, 1965 in Reedsburg to (the late) Richard and Sandra Liegel. Steve married Deanna Dushek on November 27, 1999 at the United Methodist Church with the reception at Angell Park Pavilion in Sun Prairie. They have two sons, Alex and Ryan.

Steve graduated from Webb High School in Reedsburg and received an Associate Degree in Fire Science from Madison Technical College. Steve worked hard all his life starting with having his own lawn care business in Junior High School. He worked at Viking Village Grocery store through high school and saved up to buy his own car at the age of 14. He worked for American Family Insurance as a Dock Expeditor for 28 years and retired in 2019 due to health conditions.

Steve enjoyed all kinds of sports, such as hockey, baseball, basketball, football and volleyball. He was an avid collector of sports memorabilia and attended many sporting events throughout the years with family and friends. He especially loved going to the races with Alex and Ryan at Angell Park Speedway every week and supporting them throughout their hockey seasons. He also collected autographed photographs of celebrities and famous athletes and sold them on Ebay. Steve and Deanna shared a love of music and went to many concerts, their favorite being Elton John. They also enjoyed comedy clubs and live dinner theater. Steve looked forward to the annual Door County trip with family and friends every summer, cooking an enormous breakfast for the group every morning and taking in the peace and tranquility of beautiful Lake Michigan. And he never turned down the chance to get a huge dish of ice cream at a favorite ice cream stand.

Steve is survived by his wife Deanna Liegel; 2 sons Alex and Ryan Liegel; siblings Richelle (Randy) Freng, Toni (Greg) Pierce and Lori (Jasen) Glasbrenner; Aunts and Uncles Monica Liegel and Wilbert Liegel, Sally West; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Rich and Sandy (West) Liegel; Aunts and Uncles Bernie and Allene Liegel, Theresa Liegel, Melvin Liegel, Marcy (Wilbert) Liegel, and James West.

Visitation will be held on Friday June 28, 2024 from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, WI. Service will be held at 11:00 am with Pastor Bill Dushek and David Dushek officiating. Burial will follow. A luncheon to celebrate Steve’s life will be held at the Round Table, 1611 N Bristol Street, Sun Prairie from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

Steve was devoted to his family and had many great friends. Even when he was experiencing health issues, he was present for his family, spent time with friends, had a positive attitude and never complained. Steve had a gentle yet strong spirit. He was a quiet man, but he had a wickedly dry sense of humor that caused those around him to double over with laughter. We will miss Steve’s quiet strength, his sheepish grin, his sense of humor and his loving and caring personality.
