In Loving Memory of Sudha Madhusudan Joshi (February 24, 1928 – November 22, 2023)
Sudha Madhusudan Joshi, aged 95, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. Born on February 24, 1928, to A.B. Pandit and Sita Pandit in Mumbai, India, Sudha's early years were spent in Mumbai and later Karachi. After the Partition of 1947, her family returned to Mumbai.
Sudha was a distinguished singer of North Indian Classical Music, gracing the airwaves of Mumbai radio stations in the 1950s and performing on All India Radio. In April of 1953, she married Madhusudan Joshi in Mumbai, India, a union that spanned over 70 years. Their love created a family that brought immense joy to Sudha's life, with two children, Veena and Vivek.
Her professional journey took her across borders and disciplines, serving as a secretary in various capacities, including a law firm in Mumbai, India, The Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, Israel, and Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. Sudha also contributed her skills in the Cataloging Department at the University of North Dakota library.
Sudha will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and genuine interest in others. She volunteered her time and talents to several arts and advocacy organizations. Wherever she lived, she welcomed all into her home, building community between people of diverse backgrounds. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an exceptional chef, avid reader, and perpetual learner.
Throughout her retirement, Sudha and her husband Madhu spent winters in Pune, India, cherishing the moments in their shared apartment. She kept strong ties with family and friends in India, embodying the values of community and family.
Survived by her beloved husband Madhu Joshi, two children: Veena Brekke (Steve Sundet) and Vivek Joshi (Monica Joshi), five grandchildren: Arune Brekke (Jannet Arenas Pineda), Erik Brekke, Anjuli Brekke, Elise Joshi, Eliot Joshi, and one great grandson, Niko Brekke Arenas.
Sudha Madhusudan Joshi leaves behind a legacy of compassion, devotion, and a life well-lived. She touched the hearts of many and will be remembered fondly by all whose lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will take place at 4:00 PM on Saturday, December 16th at Cress Funeral Home at 6021 University Avenue in Madison, WI.
