***PLEASE NOTE THERE HAS BEEN A CHANGE: MASS WILL NOW BE ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 16TH***
Susan (Sue) Geishirt was born on June 3, 1935 to Frank and Julianna Schmelzer Rodenschmit, and passed away on August 3, 2023 at the age of 88. She grew up on the family dairy farm in Cross Plains and graduated from Middleton High School. She married Elmer Geishirt on June 20, 1959 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cross Plains. They lived in Madison, DeForest and moved to Waunakee in 1974, which became their permanent home.
Sue was the ultimate homemaker, sewing the kids’ clothes, cooking, baking, and managing the household. Her homemade brownies, rhubarb custard pie and Thanksgiving stuffing were famous among her family. Her amazing luck at Cribbage was also legendary, and the rare occurrence of winning a game against her was celebrated! Sue entered the workforce in the 1980s, when Elmer passed away, and later retired from Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation. She enjoyed quilting, baking, euchre, and most of all spending time with her family, which was the focus of her life.
Sue will be dearly missed by her children, Steve (Therese) Geishirt, Karen Eisner (Todd Parizo) and Dave (Josie) Geishirt; her grandchildren Andrew (Alicia) Geishirt, Katie (Alex) Strong, Kristen Geishirt and Kelli Geishirt; Daniel Geishirt, Grady Geishirt, and Anna Geishirt; and her great-grandchildren Amelia, Reece, Mikena, Annalee and Leona. Sue is further survived by her sisters Mary Ellen Raemisch, Carol Spencer and Alice Atteln; a sister-in-law Jan Rodenschmit; many nieces and nephews, and son in law, Mike Ethun.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer, daughter Barb Ethun, brothers Edwin and William Rodenschmit, sisters Anna May (Bertrand) Krantz and Helen Rodenschmit, and brothers-in-law Charles Raemisch, Francis Spencer and Claire Atteln.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 209 South St. in Waunakee on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. A visitation will be held at church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. A luncheon will follow at Rodeside Grill in Windsor. Memorials are appreciated in lieu of flowers. Her family extends our thanks to Home Again and Agrace for their wonderful care of Sue.
Please share your memories of Sue here on her tribute wall.
