Susan A. Owen

October 7, 1951 — January 8, 2024

Susan A. Owen

Susan A Owen, a resident of the Madison area for nearly 50 years, died suddenly of natural causes on Monday January 8, 2024, at her home in Stoughton. She was 72.

Born October 7, 1951, and raised on a small dairy farm in western Wisconsin, Susan was the daughter of the late Donald and Mable Levendoski. Susan earned a BS in Home Economics in Business from UW-Stout, a place she would create lifelong friendships at. While working at Ed Philips in La Crosse she would meet and eventually marry the late Robert W. Owen. The two would eventually move from La Crosse to Madison and start a family. Susan has 3 surviving children Ryan, Steven and Ross Owen; sister, Helen Ford; brother, Duane Levendoski; and a cat, Millie. She is predeceased in her passing by her sister, Mary Lawrie (Levendoski).

To say she was an avid gardener and loved flowers is an understatement. After living on Waltham Road in Madison for over 20 years, there was little grass left at her residence by the time she left. During her time there, the lawn gradually grew to become a flowering garden, complete with flowers and bushes of every kind that would grow in our climate, blooming continuously in an abundance of color.  She delighted in all things green. Her green thumb didn’t stop in the yard, her porch was surrounded with hanging baskets full of flowers. As a lover of all crafts, if she wasn’t found in the garden, she could be found behind a stamp, looking to make someone happy with her love of making cards. Susan was an invaluable resource and served as a go-to person when friends or family wanted to identify a flower or learn what they needed to know about nurturing it to its full potential.

Susan loved her children; they are unarguably her legacy. Her “Three Sons’s" describe her compassion, caring, and love she brought to anyone she talked to. She was an amazing listener, incredibly open and honest. Even when others could not see good in a person or situation, Susan was always able to find, and highlight the most redeeming qualities. Looking for the good in people was something she believed in, she taught and reminded her children to do the same. This special quality endeared her to many and is likely a reason for her popularity within the community.  She was well-loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

Memorials in Susan’s name would be appreciated to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
