Surrounded by her loving family, Susan Winnig died peacefully in Memphis, Tennessee on July 13, 2017. Susan was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Susan was born to William and Helen Rubnitz in Milwaukee on Feb. 2, 1956. She married Joel Winnig on July 20, 1980. Susan and Joel had two children, Sam (Brooks) and Sarah (Woody Schuldt). Susan is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren Cora Rose Winnig and William Irvine Winnig, brother Jeffrey Rubnitz (Karin), sister in law Paula Winnig, and brother in law Marc Winnig. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Zach, Julia, and Rebecca Rubnitz, Karmi and Shai Knight-Winnig, and Simcha, Gadiel, and Shulamit Rivkin. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Susan was raised in Milwaukee and graduated from UW-Madison. She and Joel met in Madison as students and made Madison home for themselves, Sam and Sarah. Susan had two great careers, first as a stay at home mom, and then as an aide in the Madison Metro schools. She devoted her life to her family, and considered her children and grandchildren her greatest accomplishments. She was the best daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother anyone could hope to have. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life and she spent as much time with them as she could. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison with Rabbi Jonathan Biatch and Cantor Brown-Levy presiding. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family is grateful to everyone who provided care to Susan. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice or St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis.
